Year on the Medicine Wheel

Journey with us as we dive One Degree Deeper, into an ancient and timeless practice of inquiry into self, via observances and relationship to Nature. This particular format is shared by many indigenous cultures, connecting body, mind, spirit, and intuition, to the “Shields” – the rhythm of the seasons, the four directions, and the primary developmental phases of human life.

Beginning June 2021, we will spend time once a month from 6-8pm MST in a digital Council, observing how the shields that make up a "medicine wheel" are working us, what we can learn from them about ourselves and others, and how a new, yet very old perspective can be a compass point, a framework that can help make sense of our individual and collective journeys.

Embarking on this journey with others for a year-long cycle can also be a meaningful adventure for those ready to dive into nature-based personal reflection or simply desiring to take their Council practice deeper.

We will meet online one Sunday evening each month either prior to or directly after the full moon, with guidelines for a solo, “Return to Nature” medicine walk to be held each season on a day of your choice. For those in the Colorado area, an in-person group medicine walk will be coordinated.

Register here by June 15th. Our program will be capped at 18 participants. Please mark off the following dates for our online Councils to be held via Zoom.

Womxn Circle at Icelantic

Circles have been a part of sacred femininity since the dawn of time. Gathering together to honor each other, and the cyclical nature that we share as wild women in, and of the natural world. This is a space to share stories, cultivate curiosity, heal, laugh, love, and honor the deep wisdom within each of us.

What to expect:

  • We will ground with simple embodiment techniques to make sure we are as fully present as possible.

  • Post grounding, we'll move into a storytelling process called Council. We will have a theme for us to dive into for this circle. If you'd like to read more about Council, feel free to dig in here.

  • More than likely, we will dance and be weird.

RSVP to Lillian via the Contact Us form.

An Introduction to Council (Online)

An Introduction to Council (Online)

Join a like-minded group to embrace the art and learn the science of a circle-based practice of deep listening and heartfelt expression. Acknowledging and paying deep respect to the roots of council in indigenous cultures worldwide, we’ll learn of its current applications in families, social profit organizations, schools, prisons and businesses, its varied forms and settings, the importance of a strong “container”, the purpose of a centerpiece, the potent nature of the talking/listening piece and why we sit in an intentional circle, even when online. There’ll be ample opportunity for break-out groups to practice with your colleagues and time well-spent learning how to form a prompt open enough to welcome responses from the most diverse circle. You’ll gain an understanding of the basic tenets of council and finish with the skills to begin bravely practicing what you’ve learned with family, friends, work colleagues and your chosen community.

Lillian Soderman joins Kate Lipkis in offering this 16-hour certified training, as taught traditionally at The Ojai Foundation and held online in 3 sessions over a Saturday, Sunday and the following Saturday.
